Reddit has dealt with the biggest protest in its history. What's next? It turns out that Reddit is now allowed to sell AI-generated sexual content, but only if it is not deepfake. Reddit today added a new rule to its content policy that allows "AI-generated sexual content depicting fictitious people or characters."
Earlier in 2018, Reddit banned communities that publish pornography created by a neural network, calling it "junk pornography." However, Reddit has now introduced an exception for this kind of content.
Here is a comment:
Please note that this rule does not apply to commercial distribution of content with the consent of the persons depicted, AI-generated sexual content depicting fictitious people or characters, or artistic representations (e.g. cartoons, anime, etc.), but remember to follow the rules regarding the intellectual property of others.
The company also clarified that "Sexually explicit AI-generated content violates our policies if it depicts real, identifiable people."
While intellectual property rules should prevent AI-generated nude characters from appearing, Reddit understands that enforcement is difficult to enforce.
